Checkmate's Dandy Dude

Checkmate’s Dandy Dude, white, liver, and ticked  Shorthaired male, FDSB #921476, was whelped November 13, 1969, the product of a mating of Tip top Timber and Moesgaards Angel’s Deejay.

Dr. Harry A Reynolds, Jr., DVM of Mahomet, IL was the breeder; Chicago attorney, Edward Arkema was Dude’s original owner.

Dude was trained and handled by Leon Sienkowski of Mahomet, Illinois, who subsequently acquired this dog that became the foundation sire of Checkmate’s Kennels.

The records of the American Field’s Field Dog Stud Book reflect that Checkmate’s Dandy Dude recorded 39 all-age placements in Shorthair competition and was in the winners’ circle in one hour stakes in the NGSPA Region 4 Championship, the NGSPA Quail Classic, and the National German Pointing Dog All-Age Championship.

Dude also sired 34 shorthairs that recorded 602 wins in Shorthair FDSB recognized competition.  Eleven of his get – Checkmate’s White Smoke, Checkmate’s Dee Direct, Rommel’s Bigshooter, PJ Wildfire, Tip Top Oliver, Tip Top Savage Sam, Checkmate’s Dudes Big Foot, Checkmate’s Challenger, Direct’s Vegas Revue, Jubilation, Checkmate’s Sweet Sam, Gretchen’s Pride and Kojac’s Miss Kitty – won Championships.

Checkmate’s Dandy Dude’s get garnered several national titles: Tip To Savage Sam won the NGSPA National Championship in 1978; Checkmate’s Dee Direct won the NGSPA Shooting Dog Championship in 1980, while Directs Vegas Revue won the same title in 1982; PJ Wildfire won the NGSPA National Amateur Shooting Dog Championship in 1983.

The American Kennel Club records reflect that Checkmate’s Dandy Dude sire 30 AKC Field Champions, 11 AKC Amateur Field Champions and one Dual Champion.

Dude’s get with GSPCA national titles include Checkmate’s White Smoke which won the GSPCA National Championship in 1981 and PJ Wildfire which won the GSPCA National Amateur Gun Dog Championship the same year.

Checkmate’s Dandy Dude will be remembered as a dog running with speed and power that achieved an excellent win record.  More importantly, he was an exceptional sire of field trial German Shorthaired Pointers.
