Dixieland’s Rusty, white, liver, and ticked German Shorthaired Pointer, male, FDSB# 1130197 was whelped on may 2, 1978, the product of a mating of JG’s Ludwig v Duesenburg and Leighton’s Ace Mona.
Ron W Herman of Metairie, Louisiana was the breeder and owner of Dixieland’s Rusty while he was trained and handled by the late Ed Husser of Covington, Louisiana.
The records of the American Field’s Field Dog Stud Book reflect that Dixieland’s Rusty recorded 28 placements that included 6 Derby placements, 9 all-age placements, and 7 shooting dog placements. In addition, Rusty won the NGSPA Region 7 All-Age Championship in 1981, 1982 and 1984, was runner-up in the National German Pointing Dog All Age Championship in 1984 and finally was runner-up in the NGSPA Region 5 All-Age Championship as well as runner-up in the NGSPA National Championship in 1985.
Dixieland’s Rusty sired 64Field Dog Stud Book registered winners that compiled a record of 594 wins. Rusty sired eleven hour champions which included Dixieland’s Mocha Delight, Mocha’s Katie v Rusty, Uodibar’s Koonas, PW’s Abby Lane, Stormcrow in Dixieland, Nambe Mountain Mist, Leather and Lace, HMK’s Dandi Runaway Rusty and Uodibar’s Stub a Dub, and Zach’s Rusty Ruby, and Rusty’s Blue Earth Rexx.
Additionally, Dixieland’s Rusty’s get were in the winner’s circle in national competition. Uodibar’s Koonas was runner-up in the NGSPA National Championship in 1990; Dixieland’s Mocha Delight was runner-up in the NGSPA Shooting Dog Championship in 1985; Stormcrow in Dixieland was also runner-up in the NGSPA Amateur Shooting Dog Championship in 1993.
American Kennel Club records reflect that Dixieland’s Rusty sired 52 AKC Field Champions, 24 AKC Amateur Field Champions and 2 Dual Champions.
Rusty’s get include Big Oak’s Irish Mist, Gruenfeld’s Dixieland Daisy, Uodibar’s Koonas, and Uodibar’s Tub a Dub with GSPCA National titles.
While a winning field trial dog and producer of notable Shorthairs in his own right, Dixieland’s Rusty’s bloodlines continue to impact the breeding of winning German Shorthaired Pointers.
