
The NGSPA Region VII trial was held at Lake Murray Field Trial Grounds, at Ardmore Oklahoma. . A big
thank you for all the sponsors of Region VII, Purina and SportDog. A big thank you also to our Judges who
were gracious enough to come and watch our dogs. Thank you everyone for attending a making this trial
a great event. We had some bad weather and a couple of late starts to let the ground thaw out, but other
than that this was a great trial.
The Open Shooting Dog stake started Saturday, February 8th, 2025 and concluded on Monday February
10th, 2025. The stake was judged by Tim Hidalgo of Hardesty, Oklahoma and TJ Hidalgo of Hooker,
Oklahoma. We had 25 dogs drawn and 25 dogs broke away. The grounds were in excellent shape, and
we had an extremely warm, humid Saturday. The Amateur Shooting Dog stake was very competitive
and The Champion was Texas Sophisticated Tomboy (Sophie), owned by Terry Bomer, handled by Keith
Gulledge, scouted by Robbi Gulledge. Sophie had 6 well spaced finds, with a powerful forward race. The
Runner up was Hi-N’s Dirty Secret (Badger), owned by Hank Lewis, handled by Hank Lewis. Badger had a
3 finds and a back with a good forward race. These girls were braced together and this was a very nice
brace of dogs.
The NGSPA Region VII Derby Classic was held on Monday, February 10
th, 2025.
The judges were Tim Hidalgo of Hardesty, Oklahoma and TJ Hidalgo of Hooker, Oklahoma. We had 8 dogs
drawn and 8 dogs run. The first brace produced the 1st and 2nd place dogs. Mazie had multiple bird
contacts and a strong forward race with Mavis also having multiple bird contact with a nice race. This was
one of the nicest derby braces I have seen in some time with both dogs exhibiting nice bird manners, with
good application to the cover and a nice handle. 1st was LPK’s Too Hot To Handle (Mazie), owned by Jim
Burch, handled by Keith Gulledge, 2nd was MSR’s Eye On The Prize (Mavis), owned by James & Sarah
Messer, handled by James Messer, 3rd was MSR’s Cool (Joe), owned by James & Sarah Messer, handled
by James Messer.
The NGSPA Region VII All Age started at 8:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 11th, 2025 and concluded on
Wednesday, February 12th, 2025. The Judges were Meredith Mays of Arab, Alabama and Sherwin Van
Kooten of Willow Springs, Missouri. 15 dogs were drawn and 15 dogs competed. The Champion was
Texas Preacher Man (Mikey), owned by Kirk & Terry Bomer, handled by Keith Gulledge, scouted by Robbi
Gulledge. The Runner up was BDK’s Twelfth Man (Aggie), owned by David O’Brien and handled by Keith
Gulledge. Mikey had a strong forward race to be found on point 3 times, finished the hour going away at
time. Aggie also had a nice race with good application and several finds.
The NGSPA Region VII Amateur Shooting Dog started Thursday, February 13th, 2025 and concluded Friday
February 14th, 2025. The stake was judged by Meredith Mays of Arab, Alabama and Sherwin Van Kooten
of Willow Springs, Missouri. We had several late morning starts during the Amateur Shoot Dog with ice
and heavy frost on the ground. There were 21 dogs drawn and 18 dogs competed. The Champion was
MSR’s Kiss My Lily (Lily), owned by James & Sarah Messer, handled by James Messer and the Runner Up
was BDK’s Sam I Am, owned by David & Peggy O’Brien, handled by Keith Gulledge. Both of the dogs had
exceptional races with multiple bird contacts.
